MATCH Doctoral Candidate Presents Research at ICTON 2026

Konstantinos Papafilippou, one of our MATCH Doctoral Candidates, took part in the 2026 International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), held July 12–16 at the Diplomat Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic.

For more than a quarter of a century, ICTON has been one of Europe’s leading conferences dedicated to optical communication networks, photonics, and related technologies. This year’s edition brought together scientists, researchers, and experts from academia and industry from around the world, with a program of parallel technical sessions and specialized workshops covering topics such as quantum photonics, metamaterials, new optical materials, optical amplifiers, and communication networks.

Konstantinos presented his research, titled “Core Arrangement Optimization of a 12-core Weakly-Coupled Fiber for Unidirectional Transmission.” The talk marked his first conference presentation.

Reflecting on the experience, Konstantinos shared: “It was a very nice experience. The presentations were interesting, focusing on different topics in the field. The organisation of the conference was excellent. My presentation went very well, despite the anxiety of the first time. All in all, a very good experience.”

His participation reflects the growing engagement of MATCH Doctoral Candidates with the international research community, and we look forward to seeing the continued impact of our DCs in optical communications and fiber technologies.
