The MATCH consortium is pleased to announce a week of training activities that will take place at Université de Limoges – XLIM from 1 to 5 September 2026. The programme will bring together doctoral candidates, researchers, and industry partners from across the consortium for a mix of transferable-skills training, technical lectures, hands-on lab work, and a team-building event to close out the week.
A central component of the training will be the Summer School on Optical Fibers with Complex Refractive Index Profiles, along with an introduction to their manufacturing methods, held from 2 to 4 September 2026. The Summer School lecture programme will cover key topics in modern optical fiber science and technology and will feature contributions from leading experts across the MATCH network:
- João Rebola (Iscte-IUL) – History of optical fiber telecommunications, from the 70s till now
- Olivier Vanvinçq (PhLAM, Université de Lille) – Determination of the modal properties of optical fibers
- Kay Schuster (Heraeus Covantics) – From glass fabrication to fiber manufacturing
- Alessandro Tonello (XLIM, Université de Limoges) – Nonlinear based effects and consequences in telecommunication systems
- Rogério Nunes Nogueira (Instituto de Telecomunicações) – Optical fiber sensors, including sensing in multicore fibers
- Sébastien Fevrier (XLIM, Université de Limoges) – Amplifiers and lasers
Alongside the scientific lectures, MATCH doctoral candidates will participate in hands-on practical classes, designed to strengthen their technical expertise through direct experience with advanced optical fiber technologies. The programme will also include team-building activities, fostering collaboration and networking across the international doctoral cohort.
The training week will further support researchers’ professional development through a Transferable Skills Workshop focusing on scientific writing, valorisation, and entrepreneurship. These sessions will help participants develop competencies that are essential for successful careers in research and innovation.
