DC 9 – Multicore fiber technologies for Distributed Optical Fiber Sensors

Supervisors: Dr. R. Nogueira (IT); Prof. T. Alves (Iscte)

The DC plan aims the development, optimization and implementation of MCF-based MP-DOFS able to coexist with high-capacity data transmission in the same MCF. The first objective (O9.1) is the optimization and implementation of MCF based MP-DOFSs for strain, temperature curvature and shape, using hybrid systems combining different types of optical scattering in fibers, such as Raman, Brillouin and/or Rayleigh able to coexist with high-capacity data transmission in the same MCF. The second objective (O9.2) consists of the study of the backscattering signals in MCF, including the influence of ICXT and data transmission and the third objective (O9.3) consists of the application the DOFSs developed to case studies. The host institution will be Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) in Aveiro, Portugual.
